Madleen talks about the idea for the project:

We wanted to create a place where fisherwomen could meet. We could define the category as that of wives of martyred fishermen and widows, and those who have children with special needs or an elderly or sick man who could not work.

I imagined the following situation: We organizers prepare a suitable place near the shore and buy nets and their supplies. The women taking part in the initiative are unemployed and so are their families. Not all women in need can participate in the initiative, but once they learned how to maintain and repair the nets, these students would distribute the nets to fishermen whose women did not benefit from the project.

This way we benefit the greatest number of fishermen and women learn maintenance.

The contribution of the funders is essential to get the initiative started.

We had thought about the project and presented it to the authorities and our community. We also searched the internet for external financiers. This was before 2023. We created the website too.

We were unable to find donors and until 2023 no institution adopted the project.

My friends in Canada have donated enough for immediate and urgent help.

The genocide has continued until today, March 2026.

I have not lost my will because the project is still possible, furthermore now we could look for some sponsors to help us provide aid to the families of the fishermen, in particular to the children of the fishermen who were martyred during the most intense years of the genocide: from 2023 to 2025, or who were injured
